If you’ve spent any time in the world of natural or holistic health, you may have heard the phrase “terrain therapy” or talk of the body’s “internal terrain”.
It can sound a bit mysterious – but the idea is beautifully simple:
Instead of only chasing symptoms or “fighting germs”, we focus on creating an internal environment where your body naturally struggles less and thrives more.
This is exactly why Biomagnetism fits so well into the terrain therapy genre. It’s a gentle yet powerful way of working with your body’s internal balance, rather than pushing against it.
In this post, I’ll explain what “terrain” actually means, how terrain therapy differs from a symptom-focused approach, and how Biomagnetism sessions with me in East Wittering are designed to support and “tidy up” your inner terrain.
When I talk about your terrain, I’m talking about your body’s inner environment – the “soil” that everything else grows in.
That includes things like:
All of these pieces come together to create a kind of inner landscape. When that landscape is balanced and well-nourished, it’s much harder for things like chronic inflammation, fatigue, or recurrent infections to take hold.
When the terrain is out of balance, we might see:
Sound familiar?
Most of us are used to a very symptom-focused approach:
There’s absolutely a time and place for calming symptoms, especially if you’re in a lot of discomfort. But if we only ever look at the symptom, we may miss the bigger picture.
Terrain therapy asks slightly different questions:
Instead of aiming to “attack” a germ or suppress a symptom, terrain therapy focuses on strengthening your internal environment – your digestion, immune function, detox pathways, nervous system and more.
Biomagnetism Therapy (also known as Biomagnetic Pair Therapy) is a non-invasive holistic practice that uses pairs of magnets placed on specific areas of the body to help restore pH balance and support the body’s natural ability to heal.
It was developed in the 1980s by Dr Isaac Goiz Durán, who observed that certain pairs of points on the body seemed to correspond with pH imbalances linked to viruses, bacteria, fungi and parasites. By placing a positive and negative magnet on these points, he found it helped to neutralise the local pH and bring that area back towards balance.
Here’s how that ties directly into terrain therapy:
Many chronic issues are associated with areas of the body becoming too acidic or too alkaline. Biomagnetism uses magnets in pairs to gently encourage those areas back towards a more neutral pH. That more balanced environment is far less comfortable for unfriendly microbes and inflammation – and far more supportive of your own cells.
You’ll often hear me talk about homeostasis – your body’s natural tendency to move back towards balance when it’s given the right conditions. Biomagnetism doesn’t “force” your body to do anything; it creates conditions where your systems can self-correct, regulate and reset.
In a Biomagnetism session, I’m not just interested in the spot that hurts. I’m looking at patterns:
This is why Biomagnetism fits beautifully with a holistic, terrain-centred approach – we’re working with you as a whole person, not a collection of separate problems.
If you come to see me for a session, here’s roughly what you can expect.
We’ll start with a relaxed chat about:
This helps me get a sense of your overall terrain, not just the “headline symptom”.
You’ll lie fully clothed on the massage couch, face up. I will the scan your body bioenergetically and check how your body responds to different points. Your body will then help me identify areas of imbalance.
Over time, this gives us a kind of map – which systems are under strain, which organs are asking for support, and where your body is prioritising healing.
Once I’ve identified the relevant points, I place magnets in pairs and leave them in position for around 15–30 minutes while you rest. Most people feel deeply relaxed at this stage, and it’s not unusual to drift off to sleep.
During this time, the magnetic fields are working quietly in the background, encouraging local pH to normalise and giving your body space to gently rebalance.
Because Biomagnetism works on your internal environment, the shifts can continue for days after a session. Some people feel lighter and more energised quite quickly; for longer-standing or more complex issues, it may take a series of sessions to work through the layers.
Either way, we’ll always work at your pace, listening to your body and adjusting as we go.
Biomagnetism is used to support people with a wide range of issues, including:
You don’t need a formal diagnosis to benefit. Many of my clients come to me saying:
“I’m just tired of feeling tired, and I know something isn’t right – but nobody can quite tell me what.”
In Biomagnetism, and in terrain therapy more broadly, that’s exactly where we begin.
After more than 20 years in bodywork and complementary therapies, my fascination has always been: “How does everything connect?” – muscles, organs, hormones, emotions, the nervous system, the environment you live in and the stories you carry.
Biomagnetism feels like a beautiful integration of everything I’ve studied. It allows me to:
For me, terrain therapy is ultimately about giving your body the conditions it needs to remember how to heal.
If you’re curious about how terrain-focused Biomagnetism could support you:
You don’t have to keep pushing through on your own. With the right support, your body can find its way back towards balance – one magnet pair, one session, one gentle shift at a time.
